Basic CengageBrain eBook or eChapters Walkthrough

Important: Before completing the steps below, please make sure you DO NOT have the Unsealer software already installed on your machine. If you have previously installed it, you will want to uninstall it and restart your machine.


CengageBrain Walk-Through

Please make sure that you meet all of the minimum requirements for your system by going to the following website and clicking on Requirements and Compatibility: http://www.cengagebrain.com/shop/FAQ.html.

After purchasing your chapters please do the following to install and open your chapters:



Windows Machine

*You must be an Admin on your computer in order to install the Unsealer. If you are not, please contact the administrator and get the permissions added.*

1. Go to http://myhome.cengagebrain.com/cb/status/unsealer.jsp to install the unsealer.
2. Verify the platform reflects your operating system. Within the window select the Download button. If prompted to "Save" or "Run" choose Run.
3. Make sure that all Windows Office and Adobe applications are turned off before installing. Once the download completes, it should automatically start the installation file. Follow prompts given by the installer.
4. Once installed go back to the Sealed Content page and click Test. If you are using Internet Explorer as your web browser, then you should see a tropical fish. If you are using a different web browser, then you will receive a message telling you to view the page in IE.
5. Go to My Home on the top of the page and log in if you are not already. Within this page will be your chapters/eBooks or anything you have purchased.
6. You will click on the Open button next to the chapter title on the right. If a page appears saying that the Unsealer plug-in could not be detected and you saw the fish, please click on the button Don?t Ask Again and open the chapter again.
7. If you are prompted for a username/password, you will enter in the same information you used to sign into the CengageBrain site (most likely your e-mail address as your username). Also, place a check-mark in the Login Automatically box so that you can view your chapters offline for 60 days.
8. The file should unseal and you will be able to view the chapter.
9. To print the chapter you will select the Print button or you can go to File then Print.
10. To save the file to your computer, you can go to File then Save and save it to the desired location.

Macintosh Machine

1. Before trying to install the Unsealer, make sure that you have the Adobe Reader. If you do not have Adobe Reader, please go to the following site to download the software: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2_allversions.html
2. Go to http://myhome.cengagebrain.com/cb/status/unsealer.jsp to install the Unsealer.
3. Verify the platform reflects your operating system and the appropriate version of the Unsealer depending on what version of Adobe Reader you have installed. Within the window select the Download button. A file should download to your desktop or the location that your internet downloads goes to and automatically mount.
4. Make sure that all Adobe applications are closed. You will run the installer and type in your admin password for your computer.
5. Follow instructions given by the installer.
6. Once finished you will not be able to check your system. Go to My Home at the top of the page and login if you are not already. Within this page will be your chapters/eBooks or anything you have purchased.
7. You will click on the Open button next to the chapter title on the right. If a page appears saying that the Unsealer plug-in could not be detected and you saw the fish, please click on the button Don?t Ask Again and open the chapter again.
8. If you are prompted for a username/password, you will enter in the same information you used to sign into CengageBrain.com. Also, place a check-mark next to the Login Automatically box so that you can view your chapters offline for about 60 days.
9. The file should unseal and you will be able to view the chapter. To print the chapter, you will select the Print button or you can go to File then Print.
